Digital Stories

I spent days learning how to make a digital story using movie maker. My final product which I was quite proud of was jerky and real amateurish. Then my son made a quick old skool skateboarding video that puts mine to shame. Here is what he made.

This has made me realize - I may be his father BUT he is my teacher. I think its time we started looking at facilitating online this way. We are ALL teachers AND we are all LEARNERS

Nancy White

Went and saw/heard Nancy White speak at Adelaide TAFE yesterday. I found her to be very engaging and really enspiring for myself. For those of you who dont know her here is the profile from the Australian Fliexible Learning Framework

Recognised for her leadership and expertise in the emerging field of online group facilitation and interaction, Nancy is a skilled online interaction designer, facilitator and coach. Nancy presents internationally and was an early writer and collector of online facilitation resources; and is a keen explorer of some emerging e-learning technologies and pedagogies.

Presentations
Nancy will present on a fascinating array of topics designed to outline visions, provoke debate and provide very practical insights that VTE practitioners can use in their e-learning practice with clients.

Presentations will ask questions like:

1) With the emergence of more individually focused tools that enable connection, how do we find the balance between the individual and the community?
2) What do we mean when we talk about blogs and communities in the same breath?
3) How do we introduce social practices mediated by technology to second wave adopters?
4)What are the top eight competencies of online interaction?
5) What are the exciting organisational impacts and benefits of communities of practice (CoPs)?

After the presentation I figured I should do alittle bit more looking into Nancy's stuff. I found a really interesting link discussing moral panic and community webspaces like myspace. This is particulalrly pertinant to my area as we discuss sexual health, assault and abuse etc online. ANYWAY here is a link to a discussion re the above moral panic

Also here is a link to Nancy Whites blog

What Now

MAN!!!!!! I should have learned. If you take to long to publish your post you loose the bugger.

I had a great long post about professional development, courses that I am facilitating etc etc but LOST it all. Hence the bird squawking at me.

I'll try again.

On October the 3rd we had another professional development session. Thisd session was about exploring edna groups so that people could use the group forums as a resource - NOT just a place to discuss issues. The sesion went really well. Participants joined edna groups and explored the 2006 networks community forums.

IT was fantastic , people found resources that others had used and got time to explore them. Cool. People explored calendars, website builders, photo storage places, games, etcetc. They will be posting thier comments on the forum in our 'finding new ways to shine' classroom soon.

We also decided that for our last session we will learn about digital movies and try and make a movie that has each of us showcasing what we have accomplised as individuals AND as a team. (This will also be great for our end of project reporting).

Lets see: On the 4th and 5th of October we had the last two days of the blended learning SE&X course this was two good but heavy days again talking about issues such as working with young men and women at risk, young couples negotiating relationships, power, gender, AND how to support young people. (below is the group photo)

To finalise the course we had an open and honest discussion about the highs and lows of the course. One of the most pleasing outcomes of the this was the overwhelming response to having a blended course. People said it provided a necessary link to each other in the time between sessions but also added that it gave a safe space to discuss the issues necessary for the content of the course. THANK YOU TO LEARNSCOPE for showing SHineSA this format for teaching and learning.

We have also been busy on our podcasting and learning more and more how to mix, record etc as we go. Our next podcast will be up soon and you can hear what some of the participants have said about the SE&X course. .Here it is.

Rock on world.
