Last Learnscope post for 2006

Ha,

This doesnt mean its like THE last post tho'

Friday was a cool day. People are doing some really exciting things: Lets see people in SA are exploring lots of web2 stuff. From podcasting, digital storytelling, mobile learning, onlineclassrooms, myspace, blogging and more more. Elluminating, researching other classrooms, best practice research, which things fit best with which bandwidths etc etc. E-learning is being used in TAFE, private RTOs, collaborative ventures; it goes on and on. Childcare, horticultire, indiginous communities, young people, sexual health, customer service, defence, engineering - The applications are everywhere. South Australians are on edna groups, TALO groups, second life, blogger, flickr, Itunes, odeo, skype. You just cant get away from us. LEARNSCOPE ROCKS and is changing the way that teaching and learning is viewed by South Australians.
Here are some web2 sites that are worth a look:
http://www.cocomment.com - lets you track yuor own or others comments in blogs
http://www.springadoo.com - lets you record voice and/or cam and send straight away
http://odeo.com - very easy to use podcast host and do it yourself podcast
http://gong.ust.hk - voice on web asynchris and synchronis text and voice
http://www.calendarhub.com - cool calendar automatically e-mails the group about important dates coming up
http://www.digg.com - interesting articles are posted to this site. You dont have to search yourself. Really cool in the sort and stack mode

We are discussing e-learning at every opportunity in Start up sessions, Learnscope gatherings,
Edayz (booked out months in advance). Communities of practice are merging and becoming just 'community' and finding out just what that means. For instance questions are being asked:
How can you be honest and safe at the same time?
How can you learn from your avatar?
How can this be so new and exciting for me but just so so for my 15 year old?
What IS public? What IS private?

One of the best outcomes for me in this learnscope year is that peope are looking BEYOND the tools and asking WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Keep on asking.

One more thing. Here is a picture of the SHineSA sexual health podcast crew. Looks like they are just standing around doesnt it? Well they are BUT this is what planning a podcast looks like.

The Last two posts

The last two posts I have done are posted directly from www.digg.com
I posted them as a practice to see how easy this Web2 site works. Well its real easy.

I was asked to check out digg for my Learnscope reporting day so that I could give a brief rundown on what it is and what it does. At first glance I though no big deal. Its just a place for people to post links to articles so that others could read these articles if they were interested. BUT on further exploration I have seen several cool things about this site. They are:
  1. It IS articles but you can refine your digg interests a little bit so that you dont get every single posting. Choose your interest.
  2. If you watch the site in its 'swarm' or 'stack' version it is almost like a game (I cant describe it youll just have to check it out)
  3. If you find an article of interest you can click on 'blog this' and it goes straight to your blog (as I did with the previous 2 posts).
  4. SOOO instead of doing a google search (or other) you can just scan whats coming in here and then have a look at what interests you.

DOWNFALLS - I havent yey been able to refine diggs searching power to somethnig as specific as 'sexual health' which I am interested in. SO I dont even know if this is possible.

Of course it also depends on what others are posting if something interesting comes up.

But I like it so far.

Gay People are Not Going to Steal Your Penis

Wisconsin voters yesterday passed a referendum banning same-sex unions of any kind. With WI being primarily a Democrat state, there is only one explanation for this: sexual insecurity.

51.8% of users feel open source software helps reduce their piracy urges

This Internet poll shows a near 50/50 split on whether open source software has reduced your need to pirate software. Such an equal split can be interpreted several ways but does it mean that attitudes need changing?

Wow and lots still happening

To start with we have our final reporting day comming up this friday. I'm actually looking forward to it which is NOT what I would have said at the start of this project. Well done to the SA Learnscope crew. We have made a digital story edited in movie maker as our reporting tool for this workshop.

Also I have been invited to talk at the upcoming National Online Event about what our project has learned over the past year (or two) . This makes me very nervous as I havent used the elluminate platform before except as a participant. So much to keep on learning. blah blah

Also here is my latest podcast if you are interested.

I will edit this post a bit later.
